Maybe I totally missed it, but when did the school name change from C.S. (Charles Stewart) Mott to Warren Mott? Does anyone know the history?

Warren Mott High School opened its doors in September, 1966. The building was named after Charles Stuart Mott, one of the major partners of General Motors Corporation. Since the GM Tech Center had recently been opened, the name was a natural. The first graduating class was in June, 1968.
In the early nineties, Warren High School was merged with C.S. Mott High School. The names of the two schools were merged as well.

Thanks for the info! I always wondered who the heck 'Charles Stuart Mott' was...now I know. I thought the Warren Mott was just a designation between our Mott and the other one (somewhere) in Michigan. I didn't know Warren High and Mott merged.

Warren and Mott merged in 1992 when Warren High closed. I was coaching at Mott then and it was a very bitter battle over colors, mascot and combining the histories of each school. Finances won out and Warren HS closed and the only change was to combine the school names. If you haven't been by the school in awhile you should check out the stadium and now the new annex. The driveway that curves to the right around the school has been closed off and is becoming a walkway to the annex ( the church next to it). The annex will be remodeled next year but I am not sure exactly what will be there yet. The school has large numbers of students like in the 1970's and 9th grade is there now too. Hope this update is helpful. Have any questions email me. My husband coaches there so I still have a connection for info.

Michele

P.S. I love the website for your class!

Website Committe,

I was kinda wondering if the name was Charles Stuart Mott, or Charles Stewart Mott, Well Looking back thru some old graduation stuff, It indeed was called 'Charles Stewart Mott'. So we both stand corrected'

But as we all knew it, it is still Mott High to me! LOLMichele Noel Urquhart (1984) wrote:
